Department History
Date of Establishment of the Department:1965
The Department of Law, which was established in 1965, has played a significant role in providing legal education in the region. A large number of judicial officers in the State of Punjab and Haryana are former students of this Department. The Department runs three-year LL.B. course in the morning and evening shifts apart from running LL.M. course and providing research facilities for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) The students of LL.B. are trained in practical work by engaging them to organise in villages free legal aid camps, moot courts and attaching them with practising lawyers. The visits to the courts to watch the court proceedings in action is an integral part of their syllabi. The major areas of thrust in research are Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, International Law, Business Law and Family Law. To keep pace with the present times the syllabi are continuously being updated and new areas like Human Rights, Environmental Law, Cyber Law and Intellectual Property Law have been included for studies. Apart from practising law, the out going students opt for administrative services and judicial services. Some of them join multinational companies as legal advisors/consultants.
